A book about Roy Dupuis launched by an admirer…..full-time

After receiving more than 100,000 visitors from 50 countries to the internet site about Roy Dupuis that she had created, Danièle Saint-Denis, an admirer of the actor, launches a 350 page book, a homage to the works of the artist, Dans les peaux de Roy Dupuis.

By Agnès Gaudet

Considering the customary fans that visit the site she had created about Roy Dupuis and wanting to introduce them to the lesser known works of the actor, Danièle St-Denis decided to propose a book to Stanké Publishing. Ten days after she had sent her first text, dealing with his role of Ovila in Les Filles de Caleb, Alain Stanké called her and requested the rest of her book.
Danièle returned to researching, reviewing all his performances to refresh her memory and write her book. It resulted in a document of 350 pages that analyzes the actor’s career, commenting on and recalling his works.

The author never met with Roy Dupuis to avoid his censorship, but, he has given his approval of the publication of the book.

Fans even from Japan
The success of Roy Dupuis has for a long time crossed our borders. The Québécois actor, who played the role of Michael in the American spy series Nikita, is known world-wide.

For five years, there have been a large number of visitors to the site created by Danièle St-Denis, www.rdcharacters.com, more than 100,000 from all corners of the globe and many from Québec, Canada and the United States but also fans from Japan, Argentina and a large amount from Spain.

The interest was such, that the site was translated free by foreign
fans, in English, Spanish and Italian. Once a simple pastime, the
website of Roy became a full-time activity for Danièle.

Danièle Saint-Denis discovered Roy Dupuis in 1990, when she saw the play, Un oiseau vivant dans la gueule at the Quat’Sous Theater: “He made an impression on me and I began to follow his career. I watched all the episodes of Filles de Caleb, Scoop, all of Nikita- approximately 92 episodes at a rate of 22 per year during 5 years – and all his films, she explained to the Montréal Journal. I also saw him in the play True West in January 1994.”

To obtain more information on the actor, Danièle began going over the multitude of internet sites devoted to him. It is there, that she noted the lack of serious information about him and that the collection of work by the actor was unknown except in Québec. From there, Danièle who did clerical work at the Notre-Dame Hospital, started to write, she who had never written professionally.

According to the latter, the actor has played 26
characters during his career: Ovila, Les filles de Caleb, Michael, Nikita and Alexis of Seraphin-un homme et son péché are among his more famous roles. She focuses on 13 of those in her book, all the parts played in Québec, plus that of Nikita.

Dans les peaux de Roy Dupuis is thus an astonishing pilgrimage on the career of Roy Dupuis and not a biography. It will be officially launched this autumn. It is possible that the book may be translated thereafter.
