J'en Suis

The lead role of Dominique Samson in Roy Dupuis' only comedy to date. A very funny, touching film about an antiques dealer caught up in a deception that threatens his marriage and his emotional stability. Patrick Huard (Les Boys) made his film debut in this film and was wonderful as Pierre.

Quinn

A comedy. I was amazed at how funny this man can be. This is a really nice movie. I loved it. The whole tone of the movie is one of fun and fluff and it almost has an element of the unreal in it.

A word of caution. Do not watch the opening scene with your father and if you do resist the urge to pause and rewind and pause and rewind and pause and pause.

Dominique is a man with problems. His business is going down the drain, he has an insecure wife where money and the like are concerned and to top that he happens to lack a bit with the financial discipline side of things.

He gets offered a job that will get him out of debt, reassure his wife and get the business he and his partner has off the ground again. Only snag. He has to pretend he is gay. With dress sense like that anyone could believe he is but he has to dress more the part. The scene at the boutique is hilarious.

His partner acts the part of his boyfriend when the actor doesn’t show. Pure genius. Now when his wife returns from her trip to Mexico things start hotting up. He has to convince her that he is not gay while he himself is becoming unsure and his mother would be all too happy if he is. He can not openly go back into the closet because then he loses his job. His wife’s physiatrist happens to be in love with her and is trying hard to get Dominique to cross over. Throw a blonde into the mix and all’s well that ends well.

I really loved this movie and recommend it to high heaven.

I just saw it and I cannot remember the last time I laughed that hard at a movie. Not to mention how great RD looks in it!!! I rented it sans subtitles. Therefore had to watch three times to really clue in to what was being said but it was worth it. I am tempted to rent it again with subtitles just so that I can "edit" what I think was being said, for what was really being said.

Anyway just had to say love that RD!! What a fabulous actor. He makes me want to take conversational French, makes me regret dropping out of French immersion.....

Sassywest    And at a later date -

I bought the subtitled version on Ebay and have watched it 3 times already. I speak not one ounce of french , but what a great and different performance from Roy. I also thought the actor who played his friend was excellent. Great Fun!

J'en Suis is a hoot! I would recommend watching with the subtitles though cause there are lots of funny comments & jokes. Though watching without them must've been fun too, watching Roy's antics & body language.  His comedic timing is great, & not having seen any Roy character besides Michael before JS, his frequent smiles turned me to mush.

And re the French - since J'en Suis was the 1st non-LFN work of Roy's I saw, I ran out right afterward & bought a French dictionary as well as a French grammar book as a refresher.

Dominique: "I'm not oriented.  I'm disoriented."

This is a politically incorrect and occasionally embarrassing sex farce.
Fortunately, it does have some redeeming qualities.

Roy Dupuis plays Dominique Samson, an overextended businessman who is
desperate for money.  He finds the perfect job that would solve all of his
problems, but there's a catch: the boss will only hire a gay man.
Dominique, who is straight, married, and has kids, decides on the spot that
playing gay is his only viable option.

As Dominique reluctantly immerses himself in the gay lifestyle, his
masquerade leads to the predictable misunderstandings with his wife, as well
as a state of confusion about his own sexual orientation.  The scenes I
enjoyed the most were Dominique with his straight best friend, Pierre
(Patrick Huard), who ends up masquerading as Dominique's boyfriend.
Unfortunately, a lot of the gay content goes overboard into caricature,
although I believe it was kindly meant.  And the end is extremely trite.

The best part of this movie is Roy himself, no question about it.  He is
funny and charming and -- a big plus -- in nearly every scene.  And in the
eye candy arena, this film is definitely the Superbowl.  There's Roy in
gorgeous and/or interesting clothes, Roy doing Greco-Roman wrestling with
Patrick Huard, several explicit (hetero) love scenes, a couple of shower
scenes, and yes, there is the full Monty.  And I can promise you that you'll
never look at a laundry cart in the same way again.

Fun, but definitely not for the whole family.  Two out of four stars,

Billie
