April 8, 2005 The Maurice Richard project is on!
Stéphanie Bérubé

The Press
Roy Dupuis will not be
unemployed this spring: the production of film on the life of Maurice Richard
will begin next Monday and the realizer Charles Binamé (Eldorado, Seraph: a
man and his sin) account to film the first blows of shoe at the end of May.
Earlier this week, the
producing one of film, Denise Robert, of Cinémaginaire (My life in
cinemascope, cruel Invasions), had acknowledged that it missed money for its
film. Enough to cancel turning if it did not manage to supplement its financing
this week. What was made: the 600 000 $ lacks were found in three days. How? The
distributor Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm added money and the chain Super Screen
was added to the list of the partners, explains the producing one. Cinémaginaire
also increased the setting and Radio-Canada, which was already partner, "takes
part in the solution". Denise Robert however indicated that the company of State
does not inject fresh money. If one calculates also the tax credit for the
cinematographic productions, the account was good.
Next stage: to supplement the distribution. It is known that Roy Dupuis has the
title role, the two other principal characters are Lucille, the wife of Maurice
Richard, and Dick Irvin, the trainer of the Canadian at the time of Rocket. The
film begins when Maurice starts to play hockey in the minor ones; it finishes in
1955, year of the riot of the Forum.
To turn the scenes to the Forum, the production line team lorgne towards Quebec.
Colisée is the place which resembles the old Forum more, indicates the producing
one. It will also be necessary to fill the arena during one day to film the
scenes of crowd. Denise Robert intends to make contact of the professional
players of hockey to attract the observers and to have good scenes of action.
The actors who will camp the roles of the fellow-members of Maurice will have to
necessarily know to patinate. One thinks naturally of the actors of Servant
boys: Patrick Huard, Marc Messier...
Binamé counts forty days of turning, from May to July. It is not a disadvantage
of making a film of hockey in summer? "We will use computer graphics", indicates
Denise Robert.
Ken Scott signed the scenario
of Rocket, but required that one not speak about it too now. A superstition.
"what I can say, lance Denise Robert, it is that it is not a film only on
Maurice Richard. It is a film over a whole time, with a hero who arises and who
awakes a whole people

Synopsis of Roy's acceptance speech:
After receiving his Jutra and giving Celine a
hug, he stepped up to the microphone and stated" I will try to speak so you can
understand me" (referring to his scratchy voice due to his cold" He then began
to thank various people connected with the film. He then looked directly at
Francis Lecler and stated: “Thank you for allowing me to be so involved in your
film. You know already how I feel about you and your film...and...You are one of
the greats...You are already one of the greats!
Don't stop! Thank you.

Manon Bouvier-Nerbonne, the
assistant producer of "La grande traversée" a French radio show that airs
on SRC - Radio-Canada, recently contacted Minuet, Royette list-mom, to inform
her that she had 'discovered your fan club, Les Royettes' and was 'interested in
the fact that people learn French to follow the career of Roy Dupuis and all the
efforts that are made.' People can hear the show throughout Canada on Sunday
afternoons.
Ms. Bouvier-Nerbonne
asked to speak with a 'dynamic French spokesperson' about the Royettes in a
telephone interview. Hope was asked
and graciously consented to both do and also translate the interview to English
for us. Merci beaucoup Hope!! :-)
The
interview will air this Sunday on Radio-Canada. The show "La Grande Traversee'"
airs at various time depending on where you are in Canada. They have a two hour
window in which you can catch it- She was not able to narrow it down more
because they are still editing the program.
If you live in Ontario/Ottawa/Quebec regions you can hear the show between 2 and
4pm. If you live in the Vancouver area it should be aired between 11 and 1pm.
For those of us who do not have access to Canadian radio you can hear the
interview on the Radio-Canada website, however remember that the interview and
website are in French.
The url for Radio-Canada is:
http://radio-canada.ca/regions/est-ontarien-outaouais/
Once there you will see on the upper right hand side a title saying Media Sur
Internet. Scroll down & click on the link for "La Premiere Chaine"
That will take you to the broadcast area to hear the interview. The link opens
up the Real player and broadcasts the current programming for Radio- Canada. You
must have Real audio/player to hear the broadcast.
A transcript of the interview will be posted on our website along with the
translation after it airs.
